HOW TO: PLANK POSE
The plank pose is a simple yet challenging and effective exercise that can build strength in your core and stability throughout your entire body. The official Sanskrit name for the plank pose is kumbhakasana.
To get into a plank pose, or a high plank, position your body as if you were about to do a push-up. Don’t drop your gluteus maximus too high or too low–keep your back as straight as possible! Additionally, try to keep your elbows right under your shoulders, and align your elbows with your wrists. Keep your abs and chest tight! Experiment with durations of planks that feel comfortable and or challenge you.
What most people don’t know is that planks don’t just work your abs. They can improve the strength of your entire skeletal system! If done correctly, they can also improve your posture, help rid of back pain, and aid in balance and coordination. Coupled with a healthy diet and regular exercise regime, planks can speed up your metabolism and even benefit your state of mind.
