HOW TO: FOUR-LIMBED STAFF POSE

The Sanskrit name for the staple yoga pose, the four-limbed staff pose, is chaturanga dandasana. It is frequently used in sun salutation series, which we will go into more detail on in future blogs!

To get into the four-limbed staff pose, start in the plank pose. Flex your back muscles and tuck your lower belly in towards your spine. Lengthen your neck and bring your arms down into a ninety degree angle, with your elbows tucked at your sides. Be wary to not let your chest drop lower than your elbows. Keep in mind that this pose is usually utilized as a transitional position between other yoga poses, but can be held between ten and thirty seconds.

Benefits of the chaturanga dandasana include improved core, arms, wrists, and leg strength and stability. Learning the four-limbed staff pose is great preparation for more advanced yoga poses.
